Google+ Open for Business
Categories: Online Marketing
“Google+ Pages” have recently launched and started a frenzy of blog posts, articles and comments all over the internet. I don’t think I would be wrong to claim that every technology related website had already published at least one article about the subject.

Way behind Facebook, Google had started its competing social network earlier in the summer. It created a similar buzz back then and picked up very quickly making headlines with its rapid growth. According to ComScore, within 3 weeks of its launch the network had 20 million users.
A significant piece the new social network had missing was the availability of business profiles. Initially it was launched only to connect people and it was announced that business profiles were in the works. While companies were waiting for Google+ to become available for businesses, inpatient folks decided use people profiles to establish their brands on the network. This was against the terms of use and they were shut down by Google. Finally in the beginning of November Google launched Google+ Pages for business as an alternative to Facebook Pages.
Although currently we cannot clearly foresee how successful Google+ will be and what value it will really offer to businesses, companies are trying to secure their positions within the social platform to make sure that they don’t miss the opportunities Google+ will provide. One of the most obvious benefits seems to be the possibility of getting more visibility on Google search. There are also people who don’t agree with the excited proponents of the new social network, claiming that it will not have much of an impact and won’t be able to compete with its established competitors such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
